GIBRALTAR — About 40 people turned out to the city’s annual car show July 22.

From 2 to 4 p.m., residents and Downriver community members gathered to show off antique and new cars while enjoying refreshments, a disc jockey and door prizes.

“It was a great turnout,” Beautification Commission Chairman Dorothy Wood said.

Parks and Recreation Director Gil Talbert also was pleased with the turnout.

The show was sponsored by Talbert and the Beautification and Recreation commissions.

In addition, the American Red Cross will be collecting blood donations from 1 to 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Gil Talbert Community Center, 29340 S. Gibraltar Road.

“We’re going to try to make up the difference from when the lights went off (at the last blood drive),” Talbert said.

A power outage stopped the blood donations early in the day, June 21, according to Talbert.

Because of the power outage, they were only able to collect a few pints of blood.
