Elvis Presley's Death Marked by Priscilla, Lisa Marie and Fans

Elvis Presley died on Aug. 16, 1977. However, 35 years after, his music and contribution to the industry were still remembered as his fans gathered together on Wednesday evening for the annual vigil dedicated to honor him. But unlike the previous years, Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley joined the event.

At the eve of the singer’s death anniversary, about 75 000 people flocked Graceland, Elvis’ mansion in Memphis Tenessee, for the said vigil. And for the surprise of the crowd, the King of Rock’s ex-wife, Priscilla, and their only daughter, Lisa Marie showed up. In a raised platform, the two women addressed the music icon’s fans saying how they love them for the dedication to him.

However, in contrast to the solemn atmosphere that took over later in the evening, some light moments before it sort of gave a bit of color to the event. One example of those light moments was the dancing and singing of a Brazilian fun club to Elvis’ “Burning Love” in front of his mansion’s entrance. Another example was the lip synching of an Elvis impersonator donned with singer’s trademark jumpsuit and a sash.

“Elvis Presley’s ex-wife Priscilla and their only daughter Lisa Marie stunned a crowd of thousands Wednesday night when they unexpectedly greeted fans who had flocked to Graceland for a candlelight vigil marking the 35th anniversary of the singer’s death.

The vigil began Wednesday night after Priscilla Presley and her daughter made the unscheduled and impromptu appearance on a stage set up just inside the walls of Graceland, Elvis’ Memphis mansion. Together they briefly thanked the crowd for their undying admiration of the rock `n’ roll icon.”

Elvis Presley did not discover rock music. However, it can’t be denied that he was, and probably still is, the biggest symbol of it. The fact that even 35 years after his death, thousands across the US still come together for the annual vigil to remember him is just one proof of that. Another proof is that people, young and old, continue to impersonate him in almost any occasion. His name somehow became synonymous to entertainment.
