WATCH: Eddie Huang Goes to Beatles Square in Mongolia
Most coverage of the modernizing world tends to be extremely sad, full of paeans to a lifestyle lost in the maddening crush of industrialization and technology. And we won’t begrudge Eddie Huang his sad moments as he tackles the modernization of Mongolia in Ulaan Bataar, sharply contrasted with the life of a nomadic herder and his family.
But sometimes you just stumble across odd shopping malls, Seoul Avenue, and Beatles Square, and it’s kind of charming. (And then he eats a sheep eyeball, and all the charm is…still there. Weird.)
