IT'S A STATE OF MIND: UK progressive metal band TesseracT are on a fall North American tour following the release of their latest album "Altered State," and they're coming to the Granada on Thursday evening, performing with Scale the Summit, Ancients, Wrath and Ruin and Species. The show starts at 5:30 p.m.; tickets are $12 advance and $14 at the door.
PIANO PRODIGY: Theatre Lawrence kicks off a new performance series of classical music, the Dave and Gunda Hiebert Concert Series, on Thursday evening with award-winning pianist Anna Han. At the age of 17, Han has already won first prize at the 2012 New York International Piano Competition and has performed on NPR and at venues across the country. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a reception with Han in the Patton Conference Room; tickets are $15. WALKING ON A RAZOR'S EDGE: Even though he's never been one for popular country music, for more than four decades legendary singer/songwriter Billy Joe Shaver has built a repertoire of music that has been covered and recorded by the likes of Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and even Elvis Presley. You can see Billy Joe this Saturday at the Granada, appearing with Sturgill Simpson, starting at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8; tickets are $15 in advance.
WE'LL LEAVE THE LIGHT ON FOR YOU: Born from a university art and music collective out of Austin, Texas, the award-winning Bright Light Social Hour's unique mix of Southern rock, soul, dance and blues have wowed thousands of fans at venues big and small since their debut album in 2010. They're on tour this fall and fresh from playing at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and they're coming to the Bottleneck this Saturday night at 9 p.m., appearing with Lawrence's own The Sluts. Tickets are $11.
