Last year quiet whimpering was the loudest sound at Arrowhead Stadium
Kansas City, MO – It is official, last year the Chiefs set a record at Arrowhead Stadium for being the least loud venue in American football. Team officials only recently revealed that they flew a Guinness World Records official to the Chiefs v. Raiders game in 2012 where fans set the lowest sound record of .6 decibels. To put that in perspective, a mouse wheezing softly produces 1.2 decibels from 10 feet away.
The record-setting attempt was unplanned by Chiefs fans but was support by the organization, which paid $7,500 to fly an adjudicator from Guinness to Kansas City to document the lackluster effort.
“I guess the ‘12 team was really something special after all. I didn’t think that they amounted to much with only 2 wins, but they accomplished something no other franchise has before in the NFL by making their home field akin to a library!” said Chefs fan Barty Polins, of Springfield, MO.
Team investigators are currently conducting research to determine if there is a link between winning teams and crowd noise. “I think the findings will be very revealing,” said sound analyst Barbara Tythington, “the next logical step will be to harness the noise to produce energy. We can now record sound levels, but we should be looking to develop energy-capturing devices to power our stadiums based on crowd interactions.”
Recently, the Chiefs fan base surpassed the previous sound record set at CenturyLink Field of 136.6 decibels, when Seattle hosted San Francisco earlier this year. “People make a lot of noise about the fact that 137.57 is the new high water mark. But I’m more impressed with the comeback attitude of the boisterous fans,” said public relations associate Dean Whaley, “we have gone from quietest stadium to the loudest in only a few short months.”
