preview // Kathryn Williams

Cambridge Junction J2 – 18th September – tickets here.

Not many artists can really say they made it into double figures for how many albums they’ve written, most would struggle getting a chance to write that tricky second-album, but Kathryn Williams is quite the slow burner. This autumn, she will extensively tour her tenth album, entitled ‘Crown Electric’, which refers to the power company that once employed the young and yet-to-be-famous Elvis Presley.

If you’re familiar with Williams’ work already, you’ll know to expect carefully crafted folk finger-picking, shimmering under her soft nearly-spoken vocal. If you haven’t heard her before, try to imagine the female version of a contemporary Nick Drake, or Joni Mitchell’s whispering offspring, just before falling asleep. There’s also a very individual edge to Karthryn William’s sound, kind of funky, but in a devious way, and she has incredible knack of telling conventional feelings in a unique way.

Support on the night comes in the form of folk artist and Scotsman Alex Cornish, who is simultaneously his own bedroom producer.
