Joe South was a polymath musician who had a long and fruitful career that stretched back to the fifties. He was a talented songwriter with an ear for the pop hook. He was also an excellent session guitarist who played on many classic and groundbreaking records including “Chain Of Fools” by Aretha Franklin and Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde. Some of his songs ventured into social commentary and pyschology and the importance of empathy.
His tunes were covered by artists as diverse as Elvis Presley, Bryan Ferry and Tommy Roe. Joe South was 72 years old. Start with these:
Featuring the electric sitar guitar. Contests with no winners.
I think based on old Indian (as in Cherokee) saying. Easier sung than done.
The only place in the world where they have to let you in.
Where you go when you want to get lost in love. (Joe South composition.)
His biggest hit.
