Creator of UNLV's 'Hey Reb' dies – Las Vegas Blog



LAS VEGAS NV (FOX5) -Have you seen 101 Dalmatians or Sleeping Beauty? Then you have seen the paint strokes of artist Mike Miller. Miller died Thursday at the age of 74 after a battle with cancer. “He did scenic design & scenic art on Cinderella, Snow White, a couple others as well,” asserted son Don Miller. “[He] met Walt Disney, worked directly for Walt Disney.” Billions have seen those films, yet if you want to focus locally, Mike Miller & his family moved to Las Vegas in 1962 & created logos for many major casinos & even worked directly with Elvis Presley. In 1982, Mike Miller created the face of UNLV mascot Hey Reb! “He was approached by the university when they had some sort of mascot competition, & they were dissatisfied with the contributions & asked him to make a contribution. And of course he did Hey Reb! And they loved it,” asserted Don Miller. He sold the rights to the logo, which are now worth millions, to UNLV for next to nothing. …
