A TEENAGER whose father died from diabetes complications has raised £500 in his memory.

Charlotte Neale, 18, from Dordon, put on a stage show featuring her father’s favourite songs alongside her fellow Performing Arts students in May.

The show included hits such as Circle of Life from the Lion King, Westlife‘s You Raise Me Up and Elvis Presley’s Falling in Love.

The audience was served homemade cakes and tea and asked to make a donation to Diabetes UK.

Her dad Alan Webster, who lived in Walsall, died earlier that month aged just 47.

A collection was also made at his funeral.

Charlotte said: “It was very hard to lose my dad so suddenly and I needed to do something to celebrate his life.

“I thought it would be a good idea to combine this with fundraising for Diabetes UK, the charity that gave my dad help and support since he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at the age of 40.”

She added: “I’d like to thank everyone who supported the event and all my friends for taking part. My dad would have loved it. I want to help find a cure so that other people don’t have to go through the same loss that I have.”

Ellen Jurczak, regional fundraiser for the West Midlands, was invited to Charlotte’s 18th birthday party for the cheque presentation. Ellen said: “A big thank you to Charlotte, her friends and family for raising this money for Diabetes UK. She has been so brave to put on a show and I hope it has helped to celebrate the life of her dad.

“Diabetes UK supports 3.8 million people who have diabetes in the UK. Without the support from people like Charlotte we couldn’t do the work we do. There are 24,000 early deaths every year from diabetes and many of the donations we receive fund pioneering research studies into all forms of diabetes and related complications.

“Our research helps us to understand the causes of the condition and bring about life-changing breakthroughs in care, treatment and prevention, bringing us close to a cure.”
