Two award shows within 24 hours…but wait, it’s not January!! We were so excited for a mini awards season with the MTV VMAs and Emmy Awards airing on back-to-back nights. We were glued to the TV as the biggest names in the music and television industries strutted their stuff on the red carpet and on-stage. The rare occurrence of the Emmy’s airing on a weeknight has not happened since 1976! So how have the music and TV industries changed in the past 38 years? We are taking a look back in time.
Beyonce was not the first to wear studded, one-piece outfits. Elvis Presley showed Americans that he had style while performing songs from his album From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee released on May 1, 1976.
Things stayed pretty similar in the Outstanding Variety Show category as well! Saturday Night Live took home the Emmy back in ’76 while the show still remains in the category today.
The Family was not as Modern as it is now, but the hit comedy is not the only show to have had many nominations in one night. The Mary Tyler Moore Show felt the same love almost 4 decades ago with a whopping 9 nominations!
Just like the smash hit in ’76 proclaimed, we saw many Dancing Queens during this year’s VMAs. With performances from leading ladies such as Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Jessie J and Ariana Grande, the VMAs proved that ladies are still doing it big!
The past 38 years have brought many changes to the world of entertainment. Who will we watch over the next 38 years? Will Beyonce still run the world? Or will the adorable Blue Ivy take over? Will Orange is the New Black still be the topic of all of our discussions? Well, until then, we can keep ourselves busy by watching Bey’s epic performance on repeat courtesy of MTV.com.
