The songs I sang to my children at bedtime were ones I knew all the words to. I suppose this means they were important to me. Or they were played so frequently somewhere that they are imprinted forever in my mostly fading memory bank. They’re a motley crew (yes, pun intended) of songs from children’s entertainers – Skinamarinky dinky dink, skinamarinky do, I love you! – and show tunes – “I could have danced all night” from My Fair Lady, and Elvis Presley’s “I can’t help falling in love with you”. Kumbaya – that was a good one. It went on and on and on until I think the babes fell asleep in boredom. There was a long repertoire of tunes that had to be sung in a particular order or I would be stopped and reminded that I’d forgotten “Beauty and the Beast”. I believe my rendition was better…
