“All Shook Up” – both paying a tribute to Elvis Presley and providing joy and entertainment for their fans. This is this year’s AUBG Musical – something quite different from what we have seen untill now, but nevertheless enjoyable.
The musical itself is relatively new. Being released in 2004, it is entirely based on Elvis Presley’s songs. All of them, of course, are remixed and the lyrics vary so that they can fit into the plot and the storyline.
The biggest difference from other years is that “All Shook Up” is a comedy – the last several years focused primarily on drama and romance. Well, we also deal with love this year, but the approach to it is comical and even silly at some points.
Tsetsi Dimitrova and Joro Jan
The main character – Chad Roustabout (Eftim Eftimov), is a traveling musician, a rock singer from a distant city, who has dedicated his life on two things – rock and women. Once he arrives in the small town everything takes place in, he immediately makes a young mechanic girl called Natalie (Tsetsi Dimitrova) fall in love with him. To complicate things even more, there is a guy called Dennis (Joro Jan), who is in love with Natalie, and Chad has a crush on a young museum owner (Violeta Petkova). The four of them go through numerous comical ideas and situations and the end is more than unexpected.

Usually comedies do not work as well as dramas, but “All Shook Up” made a huge exception. Humor really worked well, combined with the marvelous performance by all the actors. Many of them are already legends in this area – like Joro Jan, who is an alumnus, but has been in previous projects as well. Also, Violeta Petkova is already known for her lead role as Sandy in “Grease” (2012), and she also appearanced in last year’s “Memphis”. Yan Hristov, who was actually the director this year, has been part of the musicals from “Moulin Rouge” onwards, over the course of the last four musicals.
The new additions to the team were Eftim Eftimov, who graduated AUBG in 2008 and returned here only for the musical, and Tsetsi Dimitrova, who is a freshman now. Both of them proved that the musical is the right place for them.
This year, however, no professors participated. This did not by any means hinder the spectacular execution of the show.

The musical will be on a tour throughout the country all next week. For everyone who has not seen it yet – go and enjoy it. Personal favorite.
