After a stellar night from the ladies on Tuesday, the nation’s first decisions will definitely be some of the toughest ones this season.
“If we’re only keeping five, America’s got their work cut out for them,” Randy Jackson said. “We gotta talk to the producers. We might need a wild card or something. We’ve got so many great singers here tonight.”
Keith Urban made similar comments just moments before, saying that “the level of singers tonight is crazy” and “through the roof”.
Both Jackson and Urban delivered these statements shortly after Candice Glover closed out the night with her take on John Legend’s “Ordinary People”. They, along with Mariah Carey, awarded the 23-year-old South Carolina-native with a standing ovation.
“Candice, baby, that was beautiful,” Urban said. “What I love about you more than anything is your blend. You have this old soul thing, but you make is so now, so current, and tonight was superb.”
Earlier in the night, 18-year-old Amber Holcomb received a standing ovation from ALL FOUR JUDGES following her rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Believe in You and Me”. Keith called it “a perfect song for [her]”, while Mariah said that she “can sing [her] behind off”.
“I do believe that Amber is definitely in it to win it right here,” Randy chimed in. “You take on the late great Whitney, one of the greatest ever, and you work it out.”

Also rising up was 18-year-old Angela Miller, who brought back the piano for the first time in a couple of weeks for her cover of “Never Gone”, a song that was recorded by Season 11 contestant Colton Dixon.
“The trumpets should sound when you walk in the room,” Nicki Minaj said. “It’s safe to say that there’s one vote that is already counted for. It’s incredible. I love what you do.”
After last week’s blunder with a Lady Antebellum hit, 23-year-old country singer Janelle Arthur certainly stepped it up on Tuesday. According to Keith Urban, she gave “a really good performance” with her rendition of Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream”.
28-year-old Tenna Torres and 22-year-old Kree Harrison were both praised after tackling Faith Hill songs. The former was commended by Mariah for her consistency as a singer, while the latter was compared by Keith Urban to some of the greatest female country singers of all time, including Patsy Cline, Martina McBride, and Carrie Underwood.
18-year-old Breanna Steer and 19-year-old Aubrey Cleland were also accredited by the judges for their song selections, Beyonce’s “Flaw and All” and Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, respectively.
The Top 20 performances continue on Wednesday at 8pm/7 central, as the 10 male singers will compete for the remaining five available spots in this season’s Top 10.
