Oh goodness, I love them both so it’s difficult for me to chose. I think it’s impossible to tell who is objectively ‘better’ – because they both were fabulous.
In my opinion:
-Elvis was the better singer. His voice was orgasm-inducing, lol. I personally prefer Elvis’ deep, rich baritone to Michael’s tenor-strung vocals. But, I’ve always preferred the voices of baritones to tenors anyway.
-Michael was obviously a better dancer. Elvis danced, but he didn’t perfect it like Michael did. So obviously Michael’s taken the cake there. Michael was also fabulously talented at chereography.
-Michael wrote his songs. Elvis had other people write them for him. But you have to remember that during that period, very few artists wrote their own music. And I’d like to see this claim that he ‘stole black music’ substantiated. I’ll believe it once I see proof, which I have yet to. Anyway – Michael was a very skilled songwriter/composer – so he has that going for him.
-I think Elvis was more charismatic. I have to bite my lip during some interviews Michael has done because of how shy and awkward he is in those settings – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to jump into a couple certain interviews and defend and explain, perhaps more clearly, what he’s trying to say. On the other hand, Elvis was very charismatic and was better able to express himself in speech.
So, I can’t chose. It all depends on who I’m into when the question asked, but I love them both. There’s a reason BOTH are considered kings.
