I’m currently in the middle of designing my new apartment and my imagination is running wild. I remembered a post I saw several months ago from Alex Fowkes on Design Boom. This is essentially what I’d love the walls in my apartment to look like. Not only does this font alignment give a street art, poster vibe – but the history in music that this piece covers is unreal. A music / art junkie’s dream. Check it out…

‘The Sony Music Timeline’ by Alex Fowkes

(via Design Boom)

“Conceived by London-based graphic deisgner Alex Fowkes, ‘The Sony Music Timeline’ celebrates 125 years of musical history covering almost 150 square meters of wall space at their Derry street headquarters. Using just CNC cut vinyl as the sole medium, 54 columns measuring over 2 meters tall cover feature nearly 1000 of Sony’s signed artists from 1887 to the present day.

The list includes icons such as Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Janis Joplin, The Clash, Michael Jackson and many, many more. Interspersed among the artist names are certain key developments in technology, musical formats and corporate history – from the invention of early recording cylinders to vinyl, cassette, CD, radio, MTV, the Sony Walkman, the iPod and the introduction of digital streaming services.”
