Graceland Celebrates Elvis' Birthday with New Hawaii Visit Exhibit

Elvis Presley fans made the pilgrimage to Graceland in Memphis on Tuesday in honor of what would have been Presley’s 78th birthday.

To coincide with the celebration, Graceland has opened a new exhibit, “Elvis’ Hawaii: Concerts, Movies and More!” It commemorates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ TV special, Aloha from Hawaii, and also contains memorabilia related to the time he spent in Hawaii.

Angie Marcagese, who spent two years putting the Hawaii exhibit together, says, “Basically if Elvis kept a Hawaii scrapbook from every time he went there, this is what it would look like. We have movie footage of Elvis taking a boat from San Francisco to Hawaii. He wouldn’t fly because his mom didn’t want him to so actually he took a boat over.”

A second exhibition, “Elvis: Live from Vegas,” honoring The King’s connection to Sin City, will open on March 1.
