Colten Care’s Amberwood House in Ferndown
ONE of the UK’s top Elvis tribute artists had care home residents rockin’ the night away to help a Dorset young people’s charity.
Willard Ford starred in a glitzy Christmas in Vegas cabaret show at Colten Care’s Amberwood House in Ferndown, helping to raise funds for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.
More than 60 residents, relatives and friends saw Willard, in trademark rhinestone-encrusted white suit, perform many of the King’s legendary hits.
With staff in 1950s costumes, Colten Care’s hotel services team even laid on an Elvis-themed menu for the pre-show meal with dishes such as ‘Love me tenderloin of pork’ and ‘Jailhouse Roq’ salad.
Amberwood’s activities organiser Janey Lloyd said: “It was a brilliant festive fundraiser that gave everyone the excuse the dig out the sparkle and glamour hidden in their wardrobes and let their hair down for the night. We welcomed regular visitors and introduced new people and community groups to the home.”
The gala evening, attended by the Mayor of Ferndown, Councillor Terry Cordery, ended with a raffle in aid of the John Thornton Foundation.
Amberwood residents chose it as their main 2012 charity and have held a series of events during the year, raising more than £2,000.
The Foundation, set up in memory of a young Ferndown army officer killed on active service in 2008, helps young people through scholarships and bursaries.
Renowned as one of Britain’s leading Elvis impersonators, Poole-based Willard makes regular appearances at parties, festivals and events across the country performing songs from all stages of Presley’s career.
Amberwood House is one of 19 Colten Care homes across the South providing a range of services including quality residential, nursing and dementia care. Each home chooses a nominated charity to support every year.
