Paris Photo 2012 at the Grand Palais AMA

Paris, 8 October 2012. Art Media Agency (AMA).

The Grand Palais in Paris will welcome from 15 to 18 November 2012 the international photography fair Paris Photo. 151 exhibitors, including 36 new galleries compared to last year’s edition, meaning 22 countries represented and 50,000 visitors expected will gather under the Grand Palais glass roof.

The fair is displaying one of the most popular art mediums nowadays: photography. Its aim is to reveal to the public “the richness and vitality of historical and contemporary photographic creation.” As each year a “Private Collection will be highlighted, as well as “Recent Acquisitions” and an exhibition “A livre ouvert” (Open Book) about an iconic book of the history of photography. The fair will also organise a platform of interviews and meetings named “Paris Photo – Aperture Foundation Photobook Awards”.

“Archive of Modern Conflict”, the selected private collection, will highlight the passion of a collector. Created about twenty years ago, this collection gathers almost four millions photographs, some of them by famous photographers like Gustave Le Gray, and other anonymous. The exhibition will allow the public to discover works by photographs of the shadow.

An exhibition will also be especially dedicated to JP Morgan Chase. This year again he will be present at Paris Photo, displaying a series of exclusive photographs from his own collection, the JP Morgan Chase Art Collection. “Spectacular Vernacular” is gathering iconic photographers whose works have rarely been exhibited, such as Eggleston’s photographs of Graceland, Elvis Presley’s estate. Other photographs that inspired him, such as Henri Cartier-Bresson or Lynne Cohen, will be displayed as well.
