X Factor 2012: Hopefuls will sing with holograms of dead stars such ...

The Sun’s TV Biz reports today that in this year’s X Factor final, the show’s hopefuls will get to sing alongside their musical heroes as dead “pop legends” will be brought to life as holograms.

Now, personally, while I find this kinda fascinating – as per Tupac’s hologram on stage with Dr Dre – I also find it marginally grim and a tad creepy…

There’s no denying the technology is astonishing, and it’s a hell of party trick, but somehow it just feels distasteful.

However, the paper states, “Icons such as Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley would be brought back to ‘life’ as HOLOGRAMS for the series final.

“The audacious plan could even see stars who are alive take the stage in computer generated form, including Stevie Wonder.”

Senior executives were reportedly “blown away” by Celine Dion’s use of a piano playing hologram of Stevie Wonder at her show.

A show source said, “The X Factor has to keep getting better so they are looking at holograms as a way of creating a splash.

“Imagine Elvis or Amy Winehouse at the grand final. It would be incredible TV and an amazing experience for contestants.

“The technology’s there and has been used on several big stages. The X Factor final is perfect for something like this.

“It nearly happened last year after show boss Richard Holloway saw the Stevie Wonder hologram at Celine Dion.”

Amy Winehouse’s dad Mitch has previously said he would be happy to see a hologram image of his daughter used in a stage performance.

He said, “The most important thing to Amy was the music and I’m sure a lot of people would like to hear her sing again.”

What do you think of the idea of bringing dead artists to ‘life’ in this way?
