Rivers Rockabilly Trio will bring sounds of early rock 'n roll to Crossing

The Rivers Rockabilly Trio It’ll be as if Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley and The Everly Brothers are in the house – performing hits like “Peggy Sue,” “All Shook Up,” and “All I Have to Do is Dream” – when The Rivers Rockabilly Trio plays early rock ‘n’ roll favorites and golden oldies Aug. 17 at Crossing Vineyards and Winery as part of the Summer Wine & Music Series at the Washington Crossing, Pa. estate.

The 7 p.m. concert, held rain or shine at Crossing, 1853 Wrightstown Rd., also features for purchase Crossing’s award-winning wines by the bottle or glass, cheese and a home-style buffet.

The Rockabilly Trio – Stu Frederick, guitar; J.B. “Memphis” Smith, percussion; and Bradley Keough, acoustic bass – is making and encore appearance at the winery, joined by Ed Marra of Ambler. Marra, deemed “Rave-On Ed” has established himself for his Buddy Holly recreations and holds a letter of permission from Holly’s widow, said Fredrick, the band’s founder. The concert will feature Marra in a special tribute to Holly and also will include the first “very big hits of rock ‘n’ roll,” said Frederick.

Rivers Rockabilly Trio, he said, plays to preserve historic American music from greats like Holly and Presley. It is the house band for the Chesapeake Roller Derby League in Westminster Md. and was part of Martha Stewart’s wedding Web site (www.marthastewartweddings.com) for its role providing musical entertainment at a wedding in Marfa, Texas.

Tickets to the Rockabilly concert are $10 in advance, $15 at the gate. The home-style buffet, served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., is $25 plus tax and includes reserved seating on a tent-covered patio. All other guests are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets. No outside beverages are permitted. Reservations for dinner are required and may be made online at www.crossingvineyards.com or by calling 215-493-6500, ext. 19.
