MEET ALFRED WERTHEIMER
Book signing 5-8pm, Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at the Pink Palace
The King will reign at the Pink Palace this Summer! The year was 1956, and freelance photographer Alfred Wertheimer had been asked to photograph a relatively unknown Memphis singer. He was captivated by this young, energetic artist, and for just a handful of days in the spring and summer he followed Elvis Presley and took pictures of him during his leap from obscurity to super stardom. Now you’ll have the chance to see these one-of-a-kind photographs for yourself this summer at the Pink Palace.
It’s only fitting that these larger-than-life photographs come to Memphis right before and during Elvis Week. Come relive the King’s innocent younger days and feel the energy of a young man who was only just beginning to realize his potential. Alfred Wertheimer’s gorgeous photo exhibit has been displayed in prestigious museums and galleries across the country, including the National Portrait Gallery in D.C. and the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. The exhibit is finally coming back to its rightful home here in Memphis: the birthplace of Elvis’s career.
Elvis at 21: Photographs by Alfred Wertheimer will open to the public July 21 and will be on display through October 14, so come to the Pink Palace this summer and kick off Elvis Week early by celebrating the birth of a legend.
